Sixth Year - Lesson 2

Unicorn

Unicorns are one of the most beautiful, majestic beats to be found.  Living in the forests of northern Europe, they are pure white, with a single horn growing from their forehead, and a small beard growing from their muzzle.  Foals are born golden and hornless, turning silver as they gain their horn.  Unicorns tend to avoid human contact and are quite fast and difficult to capture.  They will usually allow a witch to approach them before they allow a wizard, which gives rise to the muggle concept that unicorns only accept the attentions of a virgin.

Unicorns are generally protected by wizardkind.  They are the purist beasts known to mankind and, as such, enjoy many protections by the wizarding world.  They are a Class XXXX (4X) creature because of the level of respect the wizarding community has for them.

The touch of a unicorn horn is said to cure a great many ills and to drink of unicorn blood will create a form of immortality.  Of course, to kill a unicorn for such a reason will damn the drinker to a strange half-life, never fully living, nor dying.  This has not stopped some dark wizards from doing just that, however.  Unicorn mane and tail hairs are key parts of many wands, provided they are taken from a willing unicorn.

Erkling

Erklings originated in the Black Forest in Germany.  Larger than a gnome, they stand around three feet high.  They have a pointed face and a high-pitched cackle.  That cackle is particularly entrancing to children.  Erklings attempt to lure children away from their guardians with that cackle.  Once captured, the children will be eaten.  This has earned the Erkling its XXXX (4X) rating.

Fortunately for the children of Germany, the German Ministry of Magic has placed strict controls which have reduced Erkling killings over the last few centuries.

Jobberknoll

Jobberknolls are tiny, blue speckled birds.  They live in northern Europe and America and eat small insects.  Their size and lack of danger gives them their Class XX (2X) rating.  They are silent creatures until the moment of their death.  At that time, they let out a scream made of every sound ever heard, backwards.

The main use of Jobberknolls is their feathers.  They are used for Truth Serums and Memory Potions.
